After several months of working on the kitchen we finally had the tiling done last weekend…and we are ready for the big reveal!
This is one of our favourite rooms in the house, not only because we love spending hours in here cooking up a storm (as well as having a good old catch up), but also because it is a fabulous place to sit and spend time in.
As with most of the rooms in the house, we stripped everything back to the bare minimum and made sure we had fixed all the old house ‘problems’, bringing the flooring, plumbing and electrics up to date. We also reconfigured the layout by removing a doorway and partition wall, which you can see below in our before image…
We encountered a lot more than we had expected in this part of the refurbishment, such as fixing joists and reconfiguring the plumbing (which had been chopped and changed over the years), but this was great for us in the end as we were able to create a space from a blank slate.
We meticulously planned the layout of the kitchen to both be functional as well as beautiful. It was important for us to create a space that would fit all our guests, so we created a three area kitchen, with the main cooking area to the front leading to a breakfast room and then a back kitchen for washing up (with an extra dishwasher), surplus storage and laundry.
We also wanted to make sure we had enough fridges, and we definitely achieved this! With one tall fridge and two under cabinet fridges for cold food storage in the main kitchen and a large American-style fridge freezer in the back kitchen, whilst not forgetting the large wine fridge under the kitchen island (for that all important Chef’s tipple)!
The island itself is brilliant for any chef, both home and professional. It is very large, so there is a lot of preparation space and it is positioned perfectly to use the 6 burner Rangemaster, whilst still seating up to six guests. The island is one of the main features of the kitchen and it took 6 men to bring in the large quartz top and fix it into place. That was truly a momentous day and we think it really is the icing on the cake for this room.
The Amtico flooring which features in the rest of the house has been carried through to the kitchen, and we selected an ice white and midnight blue theme with brass, gold and copper accents. These can be seen in our beautiful hand crafted copper filigree door knobs from India, our unique copper radiator in the breakfast room and our spectacular brass chandeliers.
We are now eagerly waiting for a shipment of art to arrive to add the finishing touches, but we are so excited we couldn’t wait to share our finished product with you all (albeit we may need another lick of paint as well)! So here goes!
We hope that you all love the transformation as much as we do! We are so excited to be able to share this space & hope that we can welcome you to enjoy it one day in the future.
Until next time!
