The Big Kitchen Reveal!

After several months of working on the kitchen we finally had the tiling done last weekend…and we are ready for the big reveal!

This is one of our favourite rooms in the house, not only because we love spending hours in here cooking up a storm (as well as having a good old catch up), but also because it is a fabulous place to sit and spend time in.

As with most of the rooms in the house, we stripped everything back to the bare minimum and made sure we had fixed all the old house ‘problems’, bringing the flooring, plumbing and electrics up to date. We also reconfigured the layout by removing a doorway and partition wall, which you can see below in our before image…

We encountered a lot more than we had expected in this part of the refurbishment, such as fixing joists and reconfiguring the plumbing (which had been chopped and changed over the years), but this was great for us in the end as we were able to create a space from a blank slate.

We meticulously planned the layout of the kitchen to both be functional as well as beautiful. It was important for us to create a space that would fit all our guests, so we created a three area kitchen, with the main cooking area to the front leading to a breakfast room and then a back kitchen for washing up (with an extra dishwasher), surplus storage and laundry.

We also wanted to make sure we had enough fridges, and we definitely achieved this! With one tall fridge and two under cabinet fridges for cold food storage in the main kitchen and a large American-style fridge freezer in the back kitchen, whilst not forgetting the large wine fridge under the kitchen island (for that all important Chef’s tipple)!

The island itself is brilliant for any chef, both home and professional. It is very large, so there is a lot of preparation space and it is positioned perfectly to use the 6 burner Rangemaster, whilst still seating up to six guests. The island is one of the main features of the kitchen and it took 6 men to bring in the large quartz top and fix it into place. That was truly a momentous day and we think it really is the icing on the cake for this room.

The Amtico flooring which features in the rest of the house has been carried through to the kitchen, and we selected an ice white and midnight blue theme with brass, gold and copper accents. These can be seen in our beautiful hand crafted copper filigree door knobs from India, our unique copper radiator in the breakfast room and our spectacular brass chandeliers.

We are now eagerly waiting for a shipment of art to arrive to add the finishing touches, but we are so excited we couldn’t wait to share our finished product with you all (albeit we may need another lick of paint as well)! So here goes!

DSCN0104We hope that you all love the transformation as much as we do! We are so excited to be able to share this space & hope that we can welcome you to enjoy it one day in the future.

Until next time!

Castleton House

Dry January? Maybe not at this house…

As we are located in Scotland, we couldn’t possibly commit to a Dry January with Burns Night coming up! And we know where we will be celebrating it! Apart from having a party in our impressive Billiards Room, we will be having a few glasses of Champagne and Drams of Whiskey in our opulent Champagne Room.

Once upon a time – this room was the gentlemen’s toilets (back when Castleton House was a hotel)! When we got into the house, we thought long and hard about what to create in this space. We thought about opening it through to our Billiards Room or keeping it as storage, but luckily we finally decided to bring an elegant Bar to the house!

We have created a sumptuous room to retreat into for a decadent evening. To create this room we designed an intimate and bespoke area, deciding to use dark tones, quirky decorations, unique lighting, antique furniture and statement pieces.

Central to the room is a glittering chandelier which distributes the light in the room impeccably, ensuring that our sparkling Mathew Williamson wallpaper can be enjoyed at its best! The wallpaper is spectacular, it glistens and draws a lot of attention, we definitely think it has the WOW factor!

We firmly believe that to make an impact, you have to make a bold statement, hence our fabulous wallpaper. But…we also believe you make an impact with the finer details and decorative touches in a room. For this room we have an eclectic mix of furniture and decorations. Our gold side tables with little birds add a feminine and softer touch whilst still being opulent and attractive. We have added cheeky ornaments such as our beloved cupid who sits proud on our turquoise bar cabinet and we have furnished the room with large ice buckets for our guests enjoyment.

Whilst we still have a few pictures to hang to finish the space off, we hope that you will agree that this is a room worth celebrating in! We open our doors later this year, so be sure to think about us for Burns Night 2020!

Its beginning to look at lot like Christmas…

Here at Castleton House, there is nothing we LOVE more than Christmas! And we are super excited that the house has come such a long way from the day we picked up the keys earlier this year!

Over the past few months we have been working hard to get the house ready for Christmas Day, a target which we are so pleased to have met. The interiors have been painted and decorated with fabulous wallpapers and colours, we have installed new flooring throughout and curtains have been hung, making this grand house a truly spectacular home. Perhaps one of the biggest projects, which is still under construction, is this installation of a spectacular three-room kitchen and breakfast area. Whilst it is almost done, and we can cook our Christmas Dinner in it, we are hoping that Santa will remember us in January and deliver our bespoke Quartz island worktop to finish it all off! Then all will be revealed!

We had so much fun decorating this year, knowing what has been achieved and we all feel such joy in seeing it all come together! So we have decked the halls with holly and a fairy light or two…! And we are getting ready to for our first Christmas and New Year in this beautiful house.

So whilst Castleton House is only hosting family and friends this year, we are looking forward to welcoming guests in the years to come. We will be opening our doors next year, so fingers at the ready to book into our Winter Wonderland this time next year.

Even with our excitement at opening in the next year, we still have a lot of work to finish. Next we move on to the gardens, bathrooms, cottage and gym area. So stay tuned as we will be sharing our room transformations & much more in the weeks and months to come.

Wishing everyone a very

Merry Christmas

from us at all

Dining Room Under Construction…

As we get closer and closer to Christmas the house is really taking shape.  Our mission to create a blank canvas is almost complete in all the bedrooms & our new flooring has been laid throughout – so we are feeling excited!

The flooring has probably been one of our main transforming factors alongside a fresh lick of paint and some fabulous wallpapers. Whittons Flooring helped us with the mammoth task, which proved tricky in parts!

Once the original floor was all fixed up with a lot of TLC from Paul & his team from Murray Pennycook, Whittons were then able to finish it off with a good layer of screed before laying our new Herringbone Amitco flooring.

We have finally ended up with this stunning floor!

So, when we were thinking about the dining experience you should have when you come to Castleton House, we envisaged something special and opulent, whilst still feeling comfortable and intimate. To achieve this in a room so large, we decided we needed to make our statement with our wallpaper, decoration & furnishings. No holding back. So we chose this beautiful wallpaper from Harlequin in Meadow Grass  which has truly made this space incredible.

With curtains, chairs, furniture and brand new stoves to be fitted in the next two weeks we simply can’t wait to show off this space when it is finished! Stay tuned for the unveiling!

Castleton House should be up and running in Summer/Autumn 2019. Our beautiful 8 bedroom property will be available for exclusive rent, catering to those who are looking for a luxury Scottish retreat. Follow our progress on this website, stay in touch and hopefully we can welcome you once we open!

The Billiard Room

The billiard room will be one of our first rooms to be fully renovated.  We are using classic grey tones throughout our house and have chosen a fabulous tartan and wood floor to bring everything together.  Alongside our new billiard table, which will arrive in a few weeks and with our Timothy Oulton bar on order, we simply can’t wait to host a party or two over the festive season coming!
